The computer was performing fine yesterday and suddenly today the operating system is taking too long to load. It irritates everyone, but it means that something is not right. The computer speed declines due to specific reasons.
There are numerous computer support and repair companies which can help people speed up their slow computer along with an extensive range of hardware, and software dilemmas. Some of the common reasons that impact computer speed suddenly are given below.
Virus
Malware is detrimental to malicious software. Some are designed to operate in the background using few system resources to stay undetected. Some viruses make your computer unusable and this needs to be removed completely, even a tiny amount of virus footprint can damage computer performance. Browser redirects, sudden pop-ups frequently, and changes in system settings you never made are some indications of a virus attack.
Solution – open performance monitor to see what is overriding the system resources. Run task manager- Press shift + CTRL + Esc and click on the Performance tab. On the performance monitor you get to know which hardware is under attack you need to visit Resource Monitor to gain insight.
At the footing of the ‘Performance’ button click on ‘Open Resource Monitor’. Here you will gain an insight into which process including CPU, RAM, Disc usage, etc. is consuming more resources. If any specific process is using lots of resources then it is the culprit. Find out on Google if the specific software is genuine. You can use reliable antivirus software to scan your computer and remove the virus.
Low disk space
The computer operates slowly when the hard drive is full or nearly full. You can even encounter erratic behaviors like crashing or freezing. When the hard drive is full, there can be operating system issues because OS uses a little hard drive space for page files or swap files [virtual RAM]. Insufficient space can limit swap file size and the computer is unable to use RAM efficiently. Full drive even takes time to index files and becomes more fragmented limiting space to move existing files around.
Solution – First offload or delete unnecessary files. Ensure recycle bin and downloads folder is empty because these are repositories for massive data if you don’t clean them regularly. After cleaning the obvious files if you experience a storage limit then use special tools to clean temp files and directories.
Corrupt operating system
Improper drivers and bad updates can corrupt the OS but one common reason is improper shutdown. When the system files are accessed and you force shut down then the risk of experiencing OS dilemmas is high. It can manifest on a blue screen or take long/not boot at all.
Solution – In Windows, open command prompts and right-click on them. Choose ‘Run as administrator’ and type the following ‘DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image/Restorehealth’ and press the ‘Enter’ key. When this first command is completed use SFC [System File Checker] to scan and repair the corruption. The two commands take time to complete, so be patient.
Hard drive failure, multiple services running in the background, overheating, hardware problems, and network issues can slow down the computer performance. With a methodical assessment of the telltale signs, you can detect and troubleshoot with ease.
